What to Expect

A gentle, fully clothed session where your nervous system leads the way.

A different kind of healing

Biodynamic craniosacral therapy is unlike most bodywork you may have experienced. There is no manipulation and no deep pressure. Instead, the practitioner rests their hands very lightly on your body — often the head, sacrum, or other areas — and listens.

What they are listening for is the craniosacral rhythm: a subtle, tide-like motion that runs through the cerebrospinal fluid surrounding your brain and spinal cord. This rhythm reflects the health and vitality of your entire nervous system.

When the practitioner's hands meet your body's own intelligence, something remarkable happens: the nervous system begins to self-correct. Held tensions release. The body remembers how to rest.

Before your session

Arrive a few minutes early

Give yourself time to settle. Rushing in from a busy day can make it harder for your nervous system to downshift into the receptive state where healing happens.

Wear comfortable clothing

Sessions are fully clothed. Loose, soft layers work best — avoid anything tight around the waist or neck. You will lie on a padded table for the duration.

Stay hydrated

Drink water before and after your session. Craniosacral work can shift fluid dynamics in the body, and good hydration supports the integration process.

Share what's present

At the start of each session, Kimberly will check in with you. You don't need to have a specific complaint — simply share what feels most alive or heavy for you right now.

During the session

You will lie fully clothed on a comfortable table. Kimberly's touch is extremely light — often described as the weight of a nickel or less. She may hold your head, rest a hand beneath your sacrum, or place her hands along your spine, feet or other areas of your body.

Sessions are quiet and unhurried. Some people drift into a deeply restful state between waking and sleep — a liminal space while the body does its most profound healing. Others remain alert and notice subtle sensations: warmth, tingling, a sense of expansion, or emotions rising and passing.

There is no right way to experience a session. Your body will do exactly what it needs to do.

You might notice

  • Deep waves of relaxation or sleepiness
  • Warmth or gentle pulsing under the hands
  • A sense of expansion or spaciousness
  • Spontaneous sighing, twitching, or deep breaths
  • Emotions or memories surfacing briefly
  • A feeling of being held or deeply seen
  • Stillness — a profound, restful quiet

After your session

Most people leave feeling lighter, quieter, and more at ease in their body. Some notice changes immediately — less pain, clearer thinking, a sense of emotional release. For others, the shifts unfold over the following days.

It is common to feel tired after a session. This is not a sign that something went wrong — it is your nervous system integrating the work. Rest if you can. Drink water. Be gentle with yourself.

Occasionally, people experience a temporary increase in symptoms before they improve. This is a normal part of the healing process and typically resolves within 24–48 hours.

Common questions

How many sessions will I need?

This varies widely. Some people feel significant relief after one or two sessions. Chronic or complex conditions often benefit from a series of sessions spaced. Kimberly will discuss what she observes and offer guidance, but you are always in charge of your own care.

Is it safe for infants and children?

Yes — BCST is exceptionally gentle and is one of the safest forms of bodywork for newborns, infants, and children. The touch is so light that babies often sleep through sessions. It is particularly helpful after difficult births, for colic, feeding difficulties, and developmental support.

Can I talk during the session?

You can, though many people find that silence deepens the experience. If something significant arises — a sensation, an emotion, a memory — feel free to share it. Kimberly may gently guide you to stay with the experience rather than analyze it.

What if I fall asleep?

That is perfectly fine. Sleep is a sign that your nervous system feels safe enough to let go. The work continues whether you are conscious of it or not.

Is BCST covered by insurance?

In most cases, BCST is not covered by standard health insurance. Some flexible spending accounts (FSAs) or health savings accounts (HSAs) may reimburse sessions — check with your provider. Kimberly can provide a receipt for your records.

"The body is not a problem to be solved. It is a mystery to be lived."
